Mridha sued in four more cases

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed four more cases against suspended General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and four others in connection with irregularities in the recruitment process.
Suspended Senior Welfare Officer Golam Kibria was also sued in all the cases filed.

Three official of the anti-graft agency’s Dhaka circle filed the lawsuits with the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong on Wednesday afternoon, Sub-Inspector Utpal Barua told bdnews24.com.

The other accused are physical education teacher of Bangladesh Railway’s Government Children Park High School Chandan Kumar Dash, carpenter (East Zone) Giasuddin and Senior Data Control Operator Hamid Ullah.

ACC Deputy Director Nasir Uddin, Assistant Director Kamruzzman and Deputy Assistant Director Hafizur Rahman filed the cases.

Citing the first information reports (FIRs), SI Barua said that Mridha and Kibria appointed three railway staff by tampering with the result scripts of their tests.

The ACC also filed six more cases on Sep 13 last year accusing Mridha, Kibria and suspended Chief Mechanical Engineer Hafizur Rahman of irregularities in appointing over 1,000 staff under six categories in Railway’s East Zone between 2010 and 2012.

Hafizur and Goalm Kibria were Convener and Membe Secretary of the recruitment committee respectively.

Widespread irregularities and corruption in the railway came to light when Ali Azam, driver of former Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta's Assistant Personal Secretary Omar Faruq Talukder, pulled over Faruq's microbus at the Peelkhana headquarters of Border Guard Bangladesh in the wee hours of Apr 9 last year.

He then declared that there was illegal money in the vehicle. Upon search, BGB personnel found Tk 7 million reportedly collected from job seekers.

Later, Sengupta stepped down in face of widespread criticism.
