Major’s house burgled in Dhaka Cantt

Criminals appear to have lost the fear of uniform in Bangladesh.

In a rare instance, a serving Major’s official quarters was burgled in Dhaka’s Cantonment area.

Cantonment Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mohammad Ashraf told bdnews24.com the heist took place at the residence of Maj Khoshroj Samad, when he and his family were away.

The Cantonment area, including the residential quarters, generally has very tight security in place.

ASI Ashraf said Maj Samad found the lock of the five-storied building’s main gate broken and his furniture in disarray when he returned late on Friday.
Maj Samad in his case diary alleged that nearly 734 grammes of gold jewellery (63 bhoris) and Tk 48,000 in cash were stolen from his house, the ASI said.

When contacted, Maj Samad declined comment on grounds he did not have authority to speak to the press.
