Angry residents block Dhaka-Mawa Highway

Residents of Munshiganj’s Louhajang blocked the Dhaka-Mawa Highway for nearly two hours protesting the death of a local man in a road accident a week ago.
Police and witnesses said huge traffic snarls were reported due to the road blockade that started from 7am.

The angry mob also damaged a bus of the ‘Ilish Paribahan’.

According to reports, Habibur Rahman Sohel, 32, was killed on Apr 7 near Louhajang. He was the brother of Medinimandal Union Juba League Vice President Muktar Hossain.

A Mawa-bound ‘Ilish Paribahan’ bus hit him and sped away. Locals set fire to a bus of that company and smashed several others.

Sub Inspector of Mawa Police Outpost Hafizur Rahman said locals organised a 'human chain' on Monday on the highway.

Students appearing for the on-going Higher Secondary Certificate examinations also suffered due to paucity of transport.

Later, the locals withdrew their blockade following requests from the local administration.
