Cop hacked in Munshiganj

A policeman was said to be in critical condition, after miscreants hacked him up at Gazaria Upazila of Munshiganj.

Gazaria Police Station Sub Inspector Belal Uddin, 35, was attacked at Baushia Pathanbari area of the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 10:30pm on Wednesday night, his colleague Assistant Sub Inspector Mokbul Hossain said.

Belal was admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Doctors say his condition is critical.

"Belal was attacked on his way back to the police station after duty. He fell off balance when hit by the miscreants who hacked him all over," Hossain said.

Pedestrians carried Belal to Bhaberchar Health Complex with atleast seven 'deep gashes in his body" , he said.

The SI’s firearm and motorcycle were recovered from where he was attacked, but no arrest has been reported so far.

Munsiganj Additional Police Superintendent Zakir Hossain Majumder suspects the involvement of durg peddlers in the attack.

“Recently SI Belal seized some big consignments of drugs which were heading for Dhaka from Teknaf. His success in anti-drug operations must have got him enemies.”
