Bus torched, vehicles smashed at Ashulia

Picketers set a bus on fire and vandalised several others at Ashulia on Thursday as the Islami Chhatra Shibir was enforcing a daylong shutdown across the country.

Ashulia Police Station Officer in-Charge Sheikh Badrul Alam told  that pro-shutdown activists torched the bus parked near Nabinagar bus stand at around 6:00am.

Firefighters from a station at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) in Savar doused the flames.
“Some seats of the bus were gutted. It had no passengers,” he said.

The official said several other vehicles were vandalised at scene.
One Shibir man was arrested from the scene of arson, the OC said.

The shutdown was called demanding release of central Shibir President Delwar Hussen.
