South Korea is bringing in its popular traditional dance and music teams to enthral Dhaka audience in its third cultural show marking the 40 years of diplomatic relations with Bangladesh.
Styled 'Charm of Korea', B-boy, Jinjo Crew, and traditional fusion music team Queen will perform music and dance on May 1 and May 2 at Shilpakala Academy, according to its Embassy in Dhaka.
The Embassy kicked off its year-long Bangladesh camaraderie programmes in January with opera and folk music.
A strong development partner, Korea opened its embassy in Dhaka in early 1975, more than a year after the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1973.
Now, Bangladesh is the fourth largest recipient of Economic Development Cooperation Fund loan from Korea.
Korean investments in Bangladesh range from textiles to power generation to the development of energy and natural resources, shipbuilding and ICT.
It says due to duty-free access of Bangladeshi products in Korea, the exports from Bangladesh to its market increased drastically – by 75 percent – in 2011 as compared to 2010.
First Secretary Joon-ho Bae at a press briefing on Tuesday said the cultural events would help enhancing people-to-people contact.
He said the cultural events would open with a Bangladeshi Lalan Sangeet and dance.
Bae said they would also bring in their martial art form, Taekwondo, in June and organise Korean movie festival in September or October.
Introducing Jinjo Crew, he said, they were the first Korean B-boy to win five major competitions abroad.
“They are globally respected for their creativity and professionalism,” Bae said.
He said the country music band Queen consists of five ladies who played fusion music with traditional instruments.
Citing their many live performances he said, “They attract audience in flashy stage manners.”
