Irate RMG workers protest death at Savar

Angry readymade garment workers resorted to violent protests following the death of their colleagues at the Rana Plaza, which so far claimed at least 275 lives.

Traffic on the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways came to a virtual halt since Friday morning after the protesting garment workers turned violent.

Most factories in the Gazipur area were closed for the day, police said.

The protesters are demanding actions against the owners of the Rana Plaza and the five apparel factories, who they say are responsible for the deaths at Savar.

More than 50 vehicles were vandalised, Mouchak Police Outpost Sub Inspector Saiful Islam said. This forced traffic to be grounded on the highways since 9:00am, he said.
