The first India-Bangladesh-Bhutan tripartite meeting is going to be held in Dhaka to push forward the issues of sharing water, power and connectivity.

The maiden meeting of the Working Group on Water and Power will be held on Thursday while the first meeting of the Working Group on Transit and Connectivity will be on Friday.

According to an Indian High Commission media release, the meetings will be held in pursuance of the Framework Agreement signed between India and Bangladesh in Sep 2011 during the visit of Prime Minister of India to Bangladesh.

It says the meeting on water and power is expected to enhance cooperation amongst the countries in sharing the waters of common rivers, explore possibilities of common basin management of common rivers and harness the advantages of sub-regional cooperation in the hydro-electric power sector.

The meeting on transit and connectivity will focus on the implementation of measures for the up-gradation of road and railway networks to enhance connectivity, trade, movement of goods and services as well as people-to-people contacts.

The meetings will be held at joint secretary level.
