Activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir tried blocking roads at Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts during their whole-day general strike.
রাজশাহীর ভদ্রা এলাকায় সড়ক অবরোধThe Jamaat-e-Islami student front called for the shutdown to protest the alleged detention of its Rajshahi unit Office Secretary Anowarul Islam Masum by RAB. They say he has gone missing after he was nabbed.

Ongoing Higher secondary Certificate and equivalent examinations have been kept out of the strike’s purview.

Police said the situation was largely peaceful in the districts in view of the tight security measures.

Shibir has gained notoriety for its attacks on police across Bangladesh over the past several months.

Strikers brought out small processions in Chapainawabganj and tried to block roads with burning tyres.

Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station SI Rahmat Ali said strikers fought pitched battles with the police in the city’s Rajarampur.

He said police fired eight rounds to control the situation and detained one suspected Shibir activist from the spot.

SI Ali said the strikers exploded several home-made bombs during the clashes.

Meanwhile, police detained six Jamaat-Shibir supporters during night raids in the city.

A large number of police and RAB personnel have been deployed at key points in Rajshahi city.

The strikers brought out processions in the city in support of their shutdown.
