2 bombs detonated near BNP office

Two homemade bombs exploded near the BNP headquarters in the capital’s Naya Paltan on Tuesday evening.
The bombs were detonated around 6:45pm only 50 yards away from the BNP office Chief Political Correspondent Suman Mahmud said.

Panic gripped the area as the bombs went off on the narrow street in front of the Gazi Bhaban.

Later, police combed the area to nab those responsible for the blasts, but to no avail.

The incident took place after a long day without any blasts, violence and clashes in the area despite the main opposition BNP observing a 36-hour nationwide general strike that began on Tuesday in demand of release of the party’s senior leaders.

The party’s headquarters also wore a deserted throughout the day, with most of the leaders behind bars in various violence and strike-related cases.
