Kansat PBS's loss irreparable: Enamul

State minister for Energy, Power and Mineral Resources Brig. Gen. (retd) Mohammad Enamul Haque today said, the loss of Kansat Palli Biddut Samity(PBS) by Jamaat-Shibir activists on February 28 is irreparable.
Addressing a press conference at the circuit house here the State Minister said, as electricity has become the main instrument for development, the government has taken up lot of development programme in the power sector.
Lawmaker of Nachole, Bholahat, Gomostapur constituency Md. Ziaur Rahman, lawmaker of Chapainawabganj sadar constituency Abdul Wadud, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Shah Alam were present in the press conference.
He said a 50-megawatt power station was constructed at Amnura, three solar pumps were installed at Ekanna Dighir Math, Pithalitala and Sonamasjid.
He also said a 50 MVA grid sub station is under construction at Amnura, a 34 kilometer long 33 KVA source line has been under construction, 15 kilowatt solar panel would be installed, 660 kilometer long additional supply line would be constructed to give new connections to 33,000 new subscribers.
He further added that a number of projects like new subscribers connection project of Tk. 18,00,000, Rural Electrification up gradation project, Rajshahi-Rangpur Divisional Extension Project and Deposit Work Project have been feared to be hampered due to Jamaat-Shibir's destruction.
He again said that the defeated forces of 1971 conducted the destructive activities to foil the trial of the war criminals.
Destruction of February 28, people of 15 unions are remaining in darkness for two weeks. 3,200 deep and shallow tube wells remain inoperative and crops of about 8,500 hectares of land have been deprived of irrigation facilities, he mentioned.
While asked when the people of Shibganj would get electricity the minister said they are trying their best to rescue the people from darkness.
It may be mentioned that on February 28, Jamaat-Shibir activists torched the office of PBS, burnt all personal belongings of the residents, furniture, official documents, a pick up van, GM's car, 40 motor cycles and many bicycles, instruments and machines for supplying electricity to ashes.
They also looted gold ornaments and other valuables from the residence.
