Vitamin A Plus and De-worming Campaign in Rangpur

District health administration has completed all preparations to make the upcoming Vitamin A Plus and De-worming Campaign 12 March-2013 successful throughout the district tomorrow (March 12). The campaign is being conducted under the auspices of the Public Health and Nutrition Institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Planning and assistance of the UNICEF, health officials in a press briefing said here yesterday. Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr Reajul Islam, in presence of Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Mozammel Haque and medical officer Dr Shahriar Hossain the concerned government officials, addressed the briefing. The Civil Surgeon informed the journalists the campaign is being conducted to reduce death risks of babies, saving them from blindness caused by shortages of Vitamin A and disseminating knowledge among mass people about nutritional aspects for the children. He said Vitamin A can prevent mal-nutritional blindness especially night blindness, bitot's spots and corneal lesions and also narrated importance for continuation of Vitamin A supplementation. Besides, he said about worm infestations that cause weight losses, poor growth, anemia and other problems hampering healthy growth of the children, the future of the nation. Under the Vitamin A Plus Campaign-2013, one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Blue capsule will be administered among 6-11 month babies, one dose two lakh unit Vitamin A Red capsule among 12-59 month babies and one dose deworming Albendazole tablet among 24- 59 month babies. The Civil Surgeon informed that over four lakh 6-59 month babies will be administered with vitamin A capsules while about three lakh 12-59 month babies will be administered with albendazole de-worming tablet on the day. A total of over 6,500 health workers, volunteers and trained supervisors will work at over 2,000 centres in all 33 wards of Rangpur City Corporation and 76 unions under eight upazilas and special arrangements will be made at the bus terminals, rail stations and other places to make the campaign a success.
