BNP-led 18-Party Alliance called a dawn-to-dusk hartal for Tuesday.
The hartal is a protest against police attack on a demonstration of 18-Party Alliance at Naya Paltan in the capital.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the hartal just after the demo was derailed.
